One of the most important parts of the comprehensive plan is public input. For this Comprehensive Plan update, the County faced many challenges not seen during past updates, including the impact of COVID-19 on public meetings, development patterns, and commuting trends. In place of traditional planning workshops, the County hosted an aggressive series of virtual public meetings incorporating various mediums of online exercise.
The public engagement campaign for the updates to the Comprehensive Plan and CTP included 15 public meetings, 5 online surveys, and intense coverage in the local media. The public engagement was kicked-off on February 11, 2021 with an open house meeting on the both the Comprehensive Plan and the Comprehensive Transportation Plan. The public engagement phase will end on June 11th, when the final surveys are closed.
The planning team always welcomes public input for the planning process. However, comments received after the surveys close on June 11, 2021, may not be reflected in the Final Draft of the Comprehensive Plan. Once the survey data is collected, the planning team will begin preparing the final draft document for submittal to the State. Late this summer, the county anticipates releasing the draft document on the project website www.cowetaplans.com.
